John Hook Dies Friday Following A Heart Attack

John Hook, who had been a resident of Grundy county 62 years, died at 4 o'clock Friday morning at the Grundy Memorial Hospital. Had he lived another month, he would have been 89 years old. He was apparently in good health up to the time he was stricken. He had visited with friends on the streets in Grundy Center and was resting in a recreation parlor when he was stricken late Thursday afternoon. He was taken to the hospital at once.

The body was removed to the Ferree chapel. Services conducted by Rev. Basye were held at the Methodist church in Grundy Center Monday afternoon. Burial was in the Grundy Center cemetery.

Mr. Hook was born at Hopedale, Ill., Feb. 13, 1867. He went to Kansas as a young man and married Anna Crosby of near Smith Center, Kans. They farmed near Clarinda a short time before moving to Grundy county, where he was employed on farms of the late Governor Boies and Rep. Daniel Kerr.

Later they moved into Grundy Center, where he was employed at the elevator and as night watchman for many years. They had no children.

Surviving are the widow; a brother, Sanford Hook, Des Moines, and other relatives, including a nephew, Ray Scott, Waterloo.

Mr. and Mrs. Hook had been married longer than any other couple in Grundy Center. They were making plans to observe their 67th wedding anniversary on the 8th of next month.
