Mrs. Hemme Hemmen Dies From Cancer

Mrs. Hemme Hemmen died at six o'clock Sunday morning at the Christie Convalescent Home in Cedar Falls, where she had been a patient for three and a half months. She was afflicted with cancer the past year.

Funeral services were at the Engelkes funeral home in Grundy Center at one o'clock Wednesday afternoon and later at Bethany Presbyterian church. Burial was in the Grundy Center cemetery. Rev. F. J. Langenberg conducted the services.

Mrs. Hemmen was 76 years old. She was born in Beerta, The Netherlands, June 11, 1879. On January 24, 1903, she and Ben Westerman were married in The Netherlands. In May 1903 they came to this country and located on a farm south of Wellsburg. After a number of years on the farm, they moved to Grundy Center, where Mr. Westerman died in 1940. The widow lived alone in Grundy Center until March 1951, when she and Hemme Hemmen were married. They made their home in Grundy Center.

Surviving are the husband, three step-sons and four step-daughters.
