Rites Friday for Emery E. Davis

Emery E. Davis, age 76, passed away Tuesday evening at the Grundy County Memorial hospital, where he had been a patient the past 17 days.

He was born February 7, 1878, in Lincoln township, Grundy county, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lawson B. Davis. On March 25, 1903, he was married to Rose Suttman in Grundy Center. They started farming on the Davis farm in Lincoln township. They lived on the farm until 1938, when they moved to Grundy Center, and he continued to farm the land until three years ago, when his health no longer permitted him to engage in active farming. Mr. and Mrs. Davis celebrated their golden wedding anniversary March 25, 1953.

He is survived by his wife, three sons, Edwin, of Albuquerque, N.M.; Paul of Grundy Center, Lee of Sun Valley, California; and a daughter, Mrs. Lewis Reynolds of Waterloo; five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and two sisters, Ruth and Almeda Davis of Grundy Center.

Funeral services will be Friday at the Engelkes Funeral home, with burial in the Grundy Center cemetery. Rev. Mohr will conduct the service. Hour for the service has not been set.

Mr. Davis was a pioneer member of the Grundy Center concert band, he played in the band for 52 years.
