F. E. Dickey Died Monday Following A Short Illness
F. E. Dickey died at his home in Grundy Center Monday morning following a short illness from heart trouble. He was confined to his bed for the first time on Thursday. On Friday he believed he felt much better and got up and remained up most of the day. During the night he got worse and continued to grow weaker gradually until the end came.
Resided in Grundy 57 Years
Mr. Dickey was a continuous resident of Grundy Center for 57 years and everyone knew him. He was a native of Vermont. He was born at Thompson in that state April 27, 1849, making him 86 years old on his last birthday.Grandfather Fought With Washington
Mr. Dickey came from a family who were early emigrants to America from Ireland. His grandfather, Adam Dickey, was the first of this emigrant family who was born in this country. The date of his birth is given as 1751. This first native born Dickey fought under Washington during the Revolutionary War.Family Came to Wisconsin
Mr. Dickey at the age of ten came with his family to Broodhead, Wis., where he grew up. In 1878 he came to Grundy county. Shortly thereafter he bought a farm in Washington township which he owned up to the time of his death. He acquired two other farms in the same locality and kept them. Mr. Dickey returned to his old home in Wisconsin for his bride. They were married at Oxfordsville, Wis., April 13, 1893, and began housekeeping in Grundy Center in the home where both Mr. and Mrs. Dickey died. Mrs. Dickey died very suddenly April 17, 1932. Surviving is one son, Harris Dickey, from Emmetsburg.Funeral services conducted by Rev. J. B. Bird were held at the Methodist church in Grundy Center Wednesday afternoon. Burial was by the side of the wife in the Grundy Center cemetery.
