Mrs. J. R. Lamb Dies Thursday After A Short Illness

Mrs. J. R. Lamb died at her home in Grundy Center at noon Thursday. Old age was the cause of her death. While she had been in failing health for a number of years, she was confined to her bed but a short time before the end came.

Mrs. Lamb would have been 89 years old had she lived until next March. She resided in Grundy county continually for nearly 69 years. There are probably not a score of people still living in Grundy county who were here when she came.

After completing her school training Mrs. Lamb came to Iowa from her home in New York and immediately thereafter secured a position as teacher in one of the rural schools of the county. She followed this profession until a short time after she was married.

Mrs. Lamb's maiden name was Olive Gardner. She was married to J. R. Lamb at Grundy Center 62 years ago on the 6th of last April. The couple began housekeeping on a farm northwest of Grundy Center where they resided twenty-five years after --unreadable-- they moved to Grundy Center which was their home during the remainder of their lives. Mr. Lamb died on Aug. 15th of this year. It was the wife's own wish that she be permitted soon to follow her husband.

Mr. and Mrs. Lamb had two children, both of whom are living. They are M. J. Lamb of Billings, Mont., and Mrs. H. P. Jacobsen from Mott, North Dakota.

Funeral services were held at the home, shortly after noon on Saturday and later at the Baptist church. The local pastor, Rev. A. G. Annette, had charge of the services. Burial was by the side of the husband in the Grundy Center cemetery.
