Dave Reid Dies At Hospital

David W. Reid, a resident of Grundy county 71 years, died at the Eldora hospital Monday morning. He would have been 80 years old had he lived until the 27th of this month. He had been in failing health a number of months. He was taken to the hospital a week before his death.

Funeral services were held at the Coffman funeral home at Grundy Center Wednesday afternoon and later at the Methodist church. Rev. Holtry conducted the services. Burial was in the Grundy Center cemetery.

Mr. Reid devoted much of the latter portion of his lifetime to training and driving race horses. He was a well known figure on the Iowa circuit for more than 30 years. He gave up this work which he enjoyed when advanced age and physical decline compelled it.

He was born Jan. 28, 1866, in Bayfield, Toronto, Canada. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. William Reid. He came to Grundy county with his parents when he was 8 years old. The family located on a farm in Lincoln township which Mr. Reid owned up to the time of his death. He was married to Sarah Elizabeth Pepperman October 17, 1888. They made their home on the farm in Lincoln township until 1908, when they moved to Grundy Center where they have since resided.

Mr. Reid served as a rural mail carrier a number of years before he moved to town. He also served as town marshal of Grundy Center while the late Dr. W. R. Lynn was mayor.

Surviving are his wife and one daughter, Mrs. Walter Minor. There are two granddaughters, Velma (Mrs. Sidney Murray), and Wava, and 3 great-grandchildren, Jacquelin, Eugene and Linda Murray.
