Herbert Cole Dies Friday At Hospital

Herbert A. Cole, an early resident of Grundy county, died Friday at Sartori hospital, Cedar Falls, following a short illness. He was 88 years old.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Coffman funeral home. Burial was in the Grundy Center cemetery.

The Cole family came to Grundy county about 80 years ago and the son Herbert grew up here. After his marriage he and his family made their home on a farm in Washington township. Later they disposed of their farm here and bought a farm five miles north of Marshalltown where they lived several years after which they retired from the farm and moved to Marshalltown. A little over a year ago he and his wife went to Cedar Falls to make their home with their son.

Surviving are the widow and three sons. The sons are E. E. from Cedar Falls, Lyle from Bakersfield, Calif., and Carl from Saskatchewan, Canada.

Mr. Cole was born in Mount Carroll, Ill., April 19, 1856. His parents came from Illinois to Grundy county with an ox team. In 1865 he married Lida Hibarger from Cedar Rapids.
