Ralph E. Metzgar died Sunday afternoon at the state hospital at Independence. He had been in failing health the past few years. On May 4th he fell and broke a bone in his hip. That accident hastened the end.

Mr. Metzgar was 66 years old. He was born at Fayette, Iowa, July 13, 1875. He was the oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Metzgar. When he was three years old he came to Grundy Center with his parents and this, with the exception of a few years, was his home ever since. During his active lifetime he did the work of a mason. He served his country during the Spanish-American war with the 49th regimental band.

Mr. Metzgar was married Dec. 7, 1904, to Ruth Foote of Fayette. There are three children from this marriage, who with the mother survive. The children are Mrs. Veryl Whitney, Mrs. Peryl Gordon, and Robert, all of Chicago. There is one brother, Lyle, of Grundy Center, and one sister, Mrs. Maude Pinney from Marshalltown.

Attending the funeral from out of town were Mr. and Mrs. Robert Metzgar and son, Mrs. Veryl Whitney and Mrs. Peryl Gordon of Chicago, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. H. Foote and R. Caldwell of Waterloo.
