George Lang, 75, of Grundy Center, died at his home on August 29 while under the care of Hospice. Mass of Christian Burial was August 31 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Grundy Center. Burial followed at the church cemetery. A memorial fund has been established in his name.

He was born August 9, 1927, in Haverhill, son of Joseph Sr. and Catherine (Westendorf) Lang. He attended St. Joseph Catholic School in Haverhill. On March 27, 1951 he was united in marriage to Helen A. Thiltgen. He had worked as a farmhand and problem solver for several people and was known as a craftsman and inventor. In 1968 he moved to Grundy Center and retired from farming in 1990. George was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Grundy Center, the Knights of Columbus and a former member of the Holy Name Society.

He is survived by his wife, Helen; four sons, Paul and wife Carol Lang of Champaign, IL, Tom and wife Rosemary Lang of Grundy Center, Bob and wife Shirley Lang of Grundy Center and Walter and wife Erin Lang of Grundy Center; a daughter, Virginia and husband John Dietiker of Fairfax; a brother, Sylvester and wife Florence Lang of Marshalltown; two sisters, Marjorie Haaf of Cedar Rapids and Celestine Boyer of Arlington, VA; and eight grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Joe, Elmer and Lawrence; and five sisters; an infant Elizabeth, Estella Richards, Mildred Freese, Rita Klosterman and Rose Marie Crawford.
