August W. Meyer

Funeral services have been set for Monday for August W. Meyer, 68, 807 W. 8th St., who died at 1:45 p.m. Friday at St. Francis hospital of heart disease.

Meyer was born Feb. 14, 1894, at St. Louis, Mo., the son of William and Mary Grote Meyer. He came to Haverhill, Iowa, as a young man and married Mary Knoll on Feb. 5, 1919, at Haverhill. They farmed there many years. She preceded him in death April 22, 1952, and he then married Ann Cavanaugh Lolwing on Nov. 29, 1956. They came to Waterloo in 1959.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic church, Holy Name society, Knights of Columbus and the Moose lodge.

He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Ilo Jean Jansen, Omaha, Neb., and Mrs. Gladys Halsted, Melbourne; two sons, LeRoy, Haverhill, and Merlin, Marshalltown; two step-sons, Gerald Lolwing, with the U.S. Navy in San Diego, Calif., and Joseph Lolwing, Tucson, Ariz.; two step-daughters, Mrs. Betty Thoren, Grinnell, and Mrs. Mary Harrenstein, Ackley; nine grandchildren and 17 step-grandchildren.

He is also survived by two brothers, William and Joseph Meyer, Bowling Green, Mo.; two half-brothers, Edmund and Bernard Orf, Bowling Green, and one sister, Mrs. Ella Scherder, also of Bowling Green.

Meyer was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, one brother, Wallace, and one grandchild.

Funeral services Monday will be at 11 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception church in Haverhill, with the Rev. Albert Forester, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The body will be taken at 10 a.m. Sunday from the Oppold funeral home to the Avey funeral home in Marshalltown where there will be a rosary service at 8 p.m. Sunday.

Funeral services were held in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Haverhill Monday for August W. Meyer, 68, of Waterloo, who died Friday in St. Francis hospital.

Mr. Meyer is survived by his wife, the former Ann Cavanough Lolwing, at one time a resident of Wellsburg, two daughters, Mrs. Ilo Jean Jansen of Omaha and Mrs. Gladys Halsted of Melbourne; two sons, LeRoy of Haverhill and Merlin of Marshalltown; two stepsons, Gerald Lolwing, with the U.S.Navy in San Diego, Calif., and Joseph Lolwing of Tucson, Ariz., two stepdaughters, Mrs. Betty Thoren of Grinnell and Mrs. Mary Harrenstein of Ackley; nine grandchildren and 17 step-grandchildren.
