Albert J. Dekker, 93, of Grundy Center, died September 23 at the Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo. Funeral services were September 26 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Grundy Center. Burial was in the church cemetery. Memorials may be sent to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Albert Johan Dekker was born the son of William A. and Marie (Slifer) Dekker on November 22, 1909. He attended country school in Grundy County. He served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. After the war he was united in marriage to Hattie Lupkes on May 29, 1946 in Grundy Center. Albert drove truck hauling produce, freight and livestock until his retirement in 1983. Albert was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Holy Name Society, the Grundy Center American Legion Post #349 and AMVETS Post #17.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Hattie on August 14, 1980; his parents, a brother, Joe Dekker; and three sisters, Frieda Bottema, Johanna Schwarck and Gezenna Loveless.

He is survived by his daughter, Norma and her husband Orren Cairo of West Des Moines; a grandson; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Margaret Norman of Grundy Center; a sister-in-law, Gladys Dekker of Grundy Center; and a good friend, Helen Heerts.
