Mrs. Dolly Hawn Dies at Hospital; Burial Saturday

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the Methodist church for Mrs. Henrietta "Dolly" Hawn, 65, lifelong Grundy Center resident, who died last Thursday at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital.

Burial was in the Grundy Center cemetery, with Rev. E. E. Basye officiating at the service.

Pallbearers were six of Mrs. Hawn's grandsons: Paul Vogt, Gordon Akers, James Hawn, Phillip Hawn, LaVern Hawn and Robert Hawn.

Music at the service was provided by soloist Mrs. Glen Cone, accompanied by Mrs. Arthur Trevillyan. Mrs. Walter Fonken and Mrs. Lloyd Freed were in charge of flowers.

Mrs. Hawn had entered the hospital December 19 after suffering a stroke, and her condition became critical when she had a heart attack at the hospital the Saturday prior to her death. She finally succumbed early Thursday morning.

Obituary
Henrietta "Dolly" Boven was born December 8, 1892, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Heiko H. Boven, on a farm just south of Grundy Center.

She attended public school at Grundy Center, and later enrolled at Iowa State Teachers College, Cedar Falls.

In 1910 she was united in marriage to Raymond Hawn, and from this union were born 10 children, eight of whom survive their mother.

The children are Blanche (Mrs. Perl Vogt), Grundy Center; Blaine, Minneapolis; Blair, Ottumwa; Burgess, Grundy Center; Burnius (Mrs. Orville Akers), Grundy Center; Harold, Reno, Nevada; Vivian (Mrs. George Carr), Waterloo; and Cleo (Mrs. Harley Freese), Wellsburg.

Mrs. Hawn was one of the most highly respected women of her community, so her loss by death is shared not only by her family but by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her.

She single-handedly raised her large family by doing housework, in addition to her duties as a devoted mother, and was rewarded by having each of her children complete their education in the Grundy Center school and become established with their own homes.

In addition to her children, Mrs. Hawn is survived by 20 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three brothers and one sister, Franz Boven of Moline, Ill., D. H. Boven of Grundy Center, John Boven of Bristow, and Mrs. Day Cretin, Eldora.

Preceding her in death were her parents, one brother, and two grandchildren.
