Ray Hawn Dies In Waterloo

Raymond Hawn who made his home in Grundy Center many years, died in his room at the Congress Hotel in Waterloo about 7 o'clock Friday evening. His body was found in his room shortly after his death. The coroner of Black Hawk county said that death was the result of a heart attack. He was 58 years old.

Ray Hawn was a son of Mr. and Mrs. William Hawn. He was born in Buffalo, New York, May 28th, 1890. The family came to Grundy County when Ray was a small boy and for a number of years resided on a farm in Washington township, after which they moved to Grundy Center. His father owned and operated a garage in Grundy Center several years and Ray was employed there as a mechanic.

Ray Hawn was twice married. His first wife, Henrietta Hawn, and their eight children, survive. The children are Mrs. Purl Vogt, Grundy Center, Burgess, Grundy Center, Mrs. Orval Akers, Grundy Center, Harold, Herlong, California, Mrs. Carr, Waterloo and Mrs. Harley Freese, Wellsburg; Blair, Oakdale; Blaine, San Bernardino, Calif.

His second wife to whom he was married 26 years ago, also survives. Other surviving relatives are a brother Earl who lives in the state of Washington and a sister Ada who lives in California.

Funeral services were held at the Locke Funeral Home in Waterloo Wednesday afternoon. The body was brought to Grundy Center for burial.
