John H. Graves Died Saturday
John H. Graves died at seven o'clock Saturday evening at his home in Grundy Center. He was a long time sufferer from asthma. The past two and a half years poor health kept him confined to the house most of the time. He would have been 70 years old had he lived until the 7th of this month.
John Graves was born in Stephenson county, Ill. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Johann Graves. When he was a small boy he moved with his parents to a farm in Floyd county. A few years later the family came to Grundy county and moved on a farm. John grew up there. He was married March 3, 1904 to Cena Pabst. The couple lived on a Lincoln township farm a few years, when they moved to South Dakota. They remained there seven years after which they returned to Grundy Center. He was employed in an implement and blacksmith shop in Grundy Center until 1926 when the family again moved to farm in Lincoln township. After five years they returned to Grundy Center.
Surviving are one son, Ralph, Grundy Center, and one daughter, Mrs. Robert Finlayson, Indianapolis, Ind. There are two grandchildren, Carol Ann and Barbara Jean Finlayson. Other surviving relatives are three brothers, Tom and Henry from Dike and George from Grundy Center; two sisters, Mrs. Christ Sparenborg, Grundy Center and Mrs. John Heronimus, Wellsburg. One son, John, was killed in an auto accident in 1930. Others who preceded him in death were his parents and one sister, Mrs. Okke Weseman.
Funeral services conducted by Rev. F. J. Langenberg were held Wednesday at the Engelkes funeral home at 1:30 and at two o'clock in the Bethany Presbyterian church. Burial was in the Grundy Center cemetery.
