A few years later the family came to Grundy county and moved on a farm. John grew up there. He was married March 3, 1904 to Cena Pabst. The couple lived on a Lincoln township farm a few years, when they moved to South Dakota. They remained there seven years after which they returned to Grundy Center. He was employed in an implement and blacksmith shop in Grundy Center until 1926 when the family again moved to farm in Lincoln township. After five years they returned to Grundy Center.
