Beaman Man Dies At Advanced Age

Charles C. Hawley died at 2:30 last Saturday at the Maple Lodge Home in Grundy Center. He suffered a stroke a week before from which he was unable to recover. He would have been 91 years old had he lived until next September. He married Rebekah Crich at Ottawa, Ill., Aug. 31, 1882. His wife died ten years ago. Since that time he lived alone at his home in Beaman until a month ago when he came to the old people's home in Grundy Center.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist church at Beaman Monday afternoon. The services were conducted by the resident pastor, Rev. M. L. Sunderlin. Burial was by the side of his wife in the Beaman cemetery.

Mr. Hawley was born in Susquehanna county, Pennsylvania, Sept. 14th, 1858. At the age of 2 he moved with his parents to Ottawa, Ill.

The Hawley family came to Beaman in 1912. For several years he was employed on the N.W. Ry. section out of Beaman.

Surviving are three sons and one daughter. The sons are William, Marengo; Robert, Kellogg; and George, Grundy Center. The one daughter, Mrs. C. W. Butler, Sr., lives at Conrad. One son died in infancy and another son, Harry, died four years ago. Other surviving relatives are 18 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
