Silas Martin LaRue was born in New York state July 12, 1837, and departed this life April 29, 1900. Aged 62 years, 8 months and 14 days. He came to Rock Island county, Illinois, with his parents in 1850, where he lived until 1880, when he came to Grundy county, where he has since resided. He was married Feb. 16, 1865, to Fannie Bonker of Port Byron, Ill. Eight children were born of this union, three of whom are dead and five are left with the mother to mourn their loss. He was a member of Fort Byron lodge No. 624, I.O.O.F.

Deceased was loved and respected by his neighbors as was shown by the large crowd of sympathizing friends and neighbors who followed the remains to the Methodist church where services were conducted by Rev. J. H. Thompson, assisted by Rev. F. E. Miller. After the discourse the I.O.O.F. of Grundy Center, laid him to rest in the cemetery adjoining the church yard with their usual impressive ceremonies. This order was dear to the heart of deceased, he having been a member for over twenty years.
