Saturday Rites At Sacred Heart For Glen O. Wells, 71
Last rites were held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Grundy Center for Glenn O. Wells, 71, well known former employee of the Grundy County Engineer's Department.
The Reverand Francis J. Perry of St. Francis Catholic church, Barclay, Ia., was the celebrant. Burial was in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Grundy Center.
Casket bearers were Floyd Rouse, Hollis Miller, Roger Engelkes, Max Girres, Don Coleman and Jake Harken.
Mr. Wells died at 3:20 a.m. Thursday at Schoitz Memorial Hospital, Waterloo, of generalized cancer. He had been in failing health since September 8.
Glenn O. Wells was born August 31, 1899, at Sumner, the son of Joseph and Cora Hallowell Wells.
He was united in marriage to Verna Perry on February 12, 1923, at Sumner. The couple lived in Omaha, Neb. for a time and then in 1935 he joined the staff of the Grundy County Engineer's Department and lived in Buck Grove.
In 1941 the Wells's moved to Grundy Center. He retired in 1963.
At the time of his illness he was manager of the Town & Country Golf club clubhouse.
Mr. Wells was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Holy Name Society.
Survivors include his widow and one son, Lt. Cmdr. James Wells of Annapolis, Maryland. Also surviving are a brother, Lloyd Wells of Boone; two grandchildren; and one niece and one nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.
Relatives and friends from away came from Boone, Ankeny, Sumner, Parkersburg, Cedar Falls, Waterloo, New Hartford, St. Lucas, Fort Atkinson, Marshalltown and Jacksonville Beach, Fla.
Ferree Oltmann Funeral Home of Grundy Center was in charge of arrangements.
