Funeral Tuesday For John Schelling

John Schelling, 76, passed away at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital Saturday, September 12, where he had been a patient since July 4th.

Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock in the Sacred Heart Catholic church. Monsignor Smith officiated. Burial was in the Sacred Heart cemetery, Grundy Center. Rosary was recited Monday evening at the Engelkes-Abels Funeral home.

He was born June 22, 1894, at Waterloo, the son of Dallas and Emma Schelling. The family moved to Missouri, and on February 8, 1918, he was married to Lucinda Boss at White Church Missouri. He served in the army during World War I from July 26, 1918 to January 30, 1919.

The Schellings farmed west of Eldora four years, then moved to a farm near Lincoln. They came to Grundy Center in 1969.

Survivors include his widow; four children, Kenneth of Marshalltown; Donald, Grundy Center; Mrs. Dale (Edith) Eldridge of Iowa Falls; and Mrs. William (Barbara) Ragsdale of Grundy Center, 18 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, two brothers, Royal Schelling of Reinbeck and Henry of Gilberts, Illinois; three sisters, Mrs. John (Beulah) Hudson of Beaver City, Nebr.; Mrs. Clyde (Florence) Pickett of Arapahoe, Nebr.; and Mrs. J. P. (Myrtle) Henry of Greeley, Colo. He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter and one brother.
