Louie Mitchell Dies In M.C. Rest Home

Louie Mitchell, last member of the large family of Patrick Mitchell of Grundy Center, died on January 23 in a rest home at Mason City. He was 85 years old.

Funeral services were held in the Catholic church at Britt, Ia. The body was brought for burial in the family lot in the Grundy Center cemetery last Thursday.

Louie Mitchell was born in Grundy Center, June 21, 1876. He grew up in Grundy Center and was employed in different places of business here up to a number of years ago. After leaving Grundy Center he went to Britt, Iowa, where he made his home with a niece. After the death of the niece he was taken to the rest home in Mason City.

There were seven sons and one daughter in the Patrick Mitchell family. All of them grew up in Grundy Center and during their youth were supported from the income of the father, who worked on the Rock Island Ry. section for $1.25 a day. The seven sons in the Mitchell family including Louie were Barney, Dillon, Will, James, Harry, John and Frank. All except Frank are buried in the Grundy Center cemetery. The daughter lived at Britt before her death.
