Rites Saturday For Leon Petersen

Last rites for Leon Petersen, who died suddenly at his home in St. Joseph, Michigan, on Tuesday of last week, were held at Grundy Center, Friday and Saturday.

The body was brought to the Ferree Funeral Home on Friday. A Rosary service was held at the funeral home on Friday evening, presided over by Rev. Father Bodensteiner. Burial was Saturday forenoon in the Grundy Center cemetery. A service was held in the Catholic church in St. Joseph, Michigan, after which the body was brought to Grundy Center.

Leon Petersen was born Sept. 12, 1905, in Grundy Center, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Petersen. He was graduated from Grundy Center high school in 1922 and attended the University of Nebraska and Northwestern University. Since then he was in the advertising business.

He joined the Presbyterian Church in Grundy Center in his youth and in 1929 became a member of the Roman Catholic church in Chicago.

He married the former Margaret O'Connor of Chicago, May 18, 1929.

Survivors include the widow, a son, Daniel, Louisville, Ky; three daughters, Mrs. Allen Pirie, Oak Park, Ill., and Susan and Madelon at home; one brother, Vincent Petersen of Ft. Morgan, Colorado, two sisters, Irene (Mrs. Ben Janssen) of Bellevue, Iowa, and Beatrice Petersen of Grundy Center. Another sister Inez (Mrs. Albert Frost) passed away in 1952. He is also survived by four grandsons: Mark, Timothy, Gregory and David Pirie.
