The remains of James C. Kearney were brought here Saturday night last from Viborg, So. Dak., where he passed away at the home of his daughter, March 22nd, 1923, aged 69 years, 3 months and 21 days.

Mr. Kearney was born at St. Charles, Ill, Dec. 1st, 1853, and thirty-five years ago came to Iowa and Grundy county from Peoria, Ill. The family first located at Beaman for a few months and then moved to a farm south of Grundy Center where they lived for a year. From the later farm they moved to Dr. Lynn's farm where they remained seven years. They lived on another farm near here for two years.

In May, 1901, Mrs. Kearney passed away and the following February Mr. Kearney moved to Waterloo where he made his home with his daughter, Mayme, now Mrs. C. J. Wiley, until nine years ago. Being afflicted with asthma he thought his health would be better in South Dakota and he went to Viborg, that state, to make his home with his other daughter, Mrs. Georgeson, and it was there that he passed away last week, asthma and other complications being the direct cause of his death.

Besides the two daughters mentioned, he leaves two sons, William, of Waterloo, and J. F., of Winthrop, Iowa. One son, James, Jr., was accidentally killed by a gunshot ten years ago last January. Three sisters and one brother also survive him. His mother died three years ago, lacking only six months of being one hundred years of age. Her three eldest children living at the time of her death were each past seventy years of age.

Mr. Kearney was a life-long member of the Catholic faith, and two of his sisters are Sisters, one in the Dubuque convent and the other in Rhode Island.

Funeral services were held from Sacred Heart church here, Rev. Father E. J. McDonald, of that church, officiating, and interment was beside the wife and son in the Catholic cemetery west of town.

Relatives coming here for the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. C. J. Wiley, Wm. and J. F. Kearney, Waterloo, and Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Georgeson, Viborg, So. Dak., the latter accompanying the remains here.
