Wallace M. Norman, 88

Wallace M. Norman, 88, of Grundy Center, died at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital on July 16. Mass of Christian Burial was July 19 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Grundy Center. Burial followed at the church cemetery.

Born on September 13, 1913, son of John and Pearl Cockerham Norman, near New Providence. He graduated from Whitten High School in 1932. Wally and Margaret Dekker were married in LaPorte City on January 28, 1937. Wally and Margaret were lifelong farmers around Grundy Center for 58 years. He held the position of President of the Co-Op in Grundy Center for 15 years and was a member for approximately 20 years. Wally was an avid member of the National Farmer's Organization. Wally was a devout Catholic, who served on the Sacred Heart Church Board and was also a member of the Holy Name Society. He also enjoyed spending winters in Arizona, fishing trips, playing cards and enjoyed people and his family very much. Wally was a kind and gentle man who was loved by all who knew him.

Wallace is survived by his wife, Margaret; a daughter, Linda Gibbs-Johnson and her husband Glenn J. Johnson of Grundy Center; four grandsons; and two sisters, Frances Comly of Missouri and Marie and her husband Alvie Pinneo of Arkansas.

Wallace was preceded in death by his parents; and infant daughter; and two brothers, Darrell and Lawrence.
