George H. Klein, 78

George H. Klein, of Grundy Center, died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2000, at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center of complications due to surgery in April 1999. He attained the age of 78 years, eight months and 15 days.

Funeral services were held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Grundy Center on Wednesday, Feb. 2, at 11 a.m. Father Douglas Loecke officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery. Military graveside services were conducted by the Grundy Center American Legion Post #349 and AMVETS #17. A memorial fund has been established.

George was born May 14, 1921, in Stout the son of Theodore and France (Poppen) Klein. He was united in marriage to Joan Pagel on April 13, 1944, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Grundy Center. George served his country during WWII serving in the United States Navy. George worked in a creamery from 1948 until 1952 when he went to work for Farm Service for over 30 years working in various communities in Iowa.

He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Grundy Center, the Knights of Columbus, AMVETS and the American Legion.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Anna Louise Klein.

George is survived by his wife, Joan; three daughters and their husbands, Sharon Klein Wilson of Des Moines, Donna and Danny Smith of Marion and Judy and Russell Kershaw of Grundy Center; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Johanna Katzer of Conrad and Ada Mooty of Grundy Center.

The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, Grundy Center, was in charge of the arrangements.
