Lucy "Lou" Horbach, 85

Lucy "Lou" Horbach, of Grundy Center, died Tuesday, Dec. 21, 1999, at the Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo of natural causes. She attained the age of 85 years, eight months and two days.

Funeral services were held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Grundy Center on Monday, Dec. 27, at 11 a.m. Father Douglas Loecke officiated. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Sacred Heart Catholic church in Grundy Center.

Lucy was born April 19, 1914, in Roselle the daughter of Frank and Mary (Steffes) Rupiper. She was united in marriage to Nicholas Horbach on Feb. 27, 1933, in Roselle. Nick passed away on July 24, 1966. She married Harold Lynch on June 9, 1982 in Grundy Center. Harold passed away on Jan. 29, 1991. Lou and Nick owned and operated Horbach Furniture in Grundy Center since 1941.

Lucy was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Grundy Center and of the Altar Rosary Society.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Nicholas Horbach and Harold Lynch; her parents; and a brother, Norbert Rupiper.

Survivors include one son, Ron and his wife Pam Horbach of Garland, TX, two daughters, Neoma and her husband Marion Ruebel of Fairlawn, OH, and Donna and her husband John Schlemmer of Grundy Center; two step-sons, James and wife Pat Lynch of Grundy Center and Richard and wife Jo of Grundy Center; two step-daughters, Linda Lynch of Waterloo and Jill Lynch of Madison, WI; 14 grandchildren, Vicki Hardy, Sherri Nank, Joni Barnard, Tom Ruebel, Lance Horbach, Lon Horbach, Lori Sirman, Larry Horbach, Lisa Loewen, Lee Horbach, Pam Venenga, Steve Betzer, Mike Betzer and Scott Betzer; four step-grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, four step-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Margaret Hugeback of North Carolina and Gen Pietig of West Palm Beach, FL.

The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center was in charge of the arrangements.
