Keith Kinion Services Held

Keith Kinion, 83, of Mason City, died Friday, August 15, at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

A funeral mass was held at 11 a.m. Monday, August 18, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Rev. Michael Schueller officiating. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Grundy Center.

Keith's family requests that memorials be directed to the Keith Kinion Memorial Fund.

Keith was born September 29, 1913, at Fort Dodge the son of Clarence and Doris (Campagna) Kinion.

On November 28, 1934, Keith married Evelyn Manske at St. John's Catholic Church in Waterloo. Keith was employed by the Soil Conservation Service as a Technical Engineer for 38 years, until his retirement in 1972. He was transferred from Grundy Center to the area office in Mason City in 1960 to work as Terrace Expert for several counties.

In 1968, he was awarded the Medal of Honor in Washington, D.C., from the Secretary of Agriculture for his work with terraces in Iowa.

Keith was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mason City.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Kinion, Mason City; 1 son, Kay Kinion and his wife Lillian of Springfield, Missouri; 2 daughters, Karen Niemants and her husband Michael of Omaha, Nebraska and Karla Goethe and her husband Allen of Arlington, Maine; 9 grandchildren, Kevin, Kurtis, Konnie, Kent, Keith, Katey, Kim, Jacob and James; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 1 daughter, Kathleen; 2 sisters, Adele and Betty; and 1 brother, Kenneth.
