Services Held Tuesday For Lida E. Mertz

Mrs. Lida E. Mertz passed away at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, August 12 at the Long Term Care Unit of the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center.

Funeral services were held at the Sacred Heart Catholic church, Grundy Center, at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, August 14. Rev. Paul J. Grace officiated. The organist was Mrs. William G. Fisher.

Casket bearers were Duane Nevenhoven, Dennis Dolmage, Gary Mulford, Donald Coleman, Lyle Bokholt and Dale Bee.

Serving as ushers were Wallace Norman and Virgil Abels. Mrs. Donald Coleman and Mrs. Wallace Norman were in charge of the floral arrangements.

Interment was in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Grundy Center.

Mrs. Mertz was born November 26, 1908, at Grundy Center, the daughter of Robert S. and Clara Keiter Plager. She attained the age of 75 years, eight months and 16 days. She grew up in Grundy Center and graduated from the Grundy Center high school in 1927. She worked at the telephone office and ASCS office for several years.

On February 20, 1950, she was united in marriage to Raymond E. Mertz at the Sacred Heart Catholic church in Grundy Center. They lived all their married life in Grundy Center.

Her husband passed away in October of 1973.

She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic church, Grundy Center, and a member of the Grundy Center Women's Club and member of PEO.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one sister, Mildred.

She is survived by one sister, Mrs. W. B. (Beulah) Robinson of Waterloo; two brothers, A. Eugene Plager of Grundy Center and Dr. Vernon H. Plager of Waterloo; also several nieces and nephews.

The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home of Grundy Center was in charge of the arrangements.
