Rites Held For Mary Cullinan

Mary Cullinan passed away at 2:53 p.m. Saturday, April 7, at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center.

A Parish Rosary was held at the Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home at 7:30 p.m. Monday evening.

Funeral services were held at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Grundy Center on Tuesday, April 10, at 10:30 a.m. Rev. Paul J. Grace officiated, and Mrs. William G. Fisher was the organist.

Casket bearers were Virgil Volkens, Donald Messenger, William G. Fisher, David Boyle, Edwin Scholl and Leo McLaughlin. Donald Coleman and Wallace Norman served as ushers.

Interment was in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Grundy Center.

Miss Cullinan was born on December 28, 1901 at Delavan, IL the daughter of Patrick and Kate Flaherty Cullinan. She attained the age of 82 years, two months and nine days. When she was a baby her family moved to Grundy Center and she attended Grundy County and Grundy Center Schools.

In the later 1920's she was employed by the late Father Patrick Boyle, as a house keeper, a position she held until his death. She retired in the 1960's to her home in Rockwell. In March, she became a resident of the Long Term Care Unit of the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center so she could be nearer to her relatives. Ten days before her death, she had surgery in Waterloo.

She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Ladies Society of that church in Rockwell.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Helen Hulne and two brothers, John and Ed Cullinan.

She is survived by five nieces.

Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, Grundy Center, was in charge of the arrangements.
