Services Held Tuesday For George Fisher

George R. Fisher passed away at 12:15 p.m. Sunday, June 5, at his home in Grundy Center from a heart attack.

Funeral services were held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Grundy Center, on Tuesday, June 7, 1983 at 10:30 a.m. Father Paul J. Grace officiated the service. Steve Halbach was organist. Scripture services were held Monday, June 6 at the Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, Grundy Center.

Casket bearers were Donald Messenger, Virgil Volkens, Paul Hunt, Dean Eslinger, Dennis Coleman and Howard Popes. Wallace Norman and Donald Coleman served as ushers.

Interment was in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Grundy Center.

Mr. Fisher was born April 23, 1899 in Pendleton County, KY, the son of George and Mary Schandling Fisher. He attained the age of 84 years, one month and 12 days. He lived and farmed near Delavan, IL until 1944 when he moved to Iowa.

On December 30, 1944, at the Sacred Heart Catholic church in Grundy Center, he was united in marriage to Anne Connell. After their marriage he worked on various farms and farmed in Grundy county for three years. In 1955 they moved and made their home in Grundy Center. He worked for several farm implement dealers and was last employed by Green Products, retiring in 1971.

He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic church and the Holy Name Society, and was a past director of the Sacred Heart Cemetery Association.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters.

He is survived by his wife, Anne, of Grundy Center; one son and daughter-in-law, William and Rita Fisher of Grundy Center; one brother, Joseph Fisher; one sister, Mrs. Irvin (Mary) Algood both of Delavan, IL; and four grandchildren, Teresa, Carol, Amy and Mark.

A memorial fund has been established. The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home of Grundy Center was in charge of the arrangements.
