Services Held For Marcella Hartman
Mrs. James (Marcella) Getting Hartman passed away at 2:35 a.m. Wednesday morning, October 27, 1982 at Arizona University Hospital in Tucson, AZ, following a lingering illness.
Scripture services were held at 7:30 p.m. Friday evening at Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, Grundy Center.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 30 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Grundy Center, with Father Paul J. Grace officiating. Mrs. William Fischer was the church organist.
Casket bearers were Robert Gehrig, Dennis Kiewiet, Clarence Bowers, Tom Teasdale, Larry Gronewold and Harold Abels. Wallace Norman and Virgil Abels served as ushers. Mrs. Larry Flater and Mrs. Delbert Jungling were in charge of the floral arrangements. Burial was in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Grundy Center.
Relatives and friends were invited to return to the church following committal services for a period of Christian fellowship and refreshment.
Mrs. Hartman was born August 31, 1926 in Colfax Township, Grundy County, IA, the daughter of Fred W. and Sarah Diekman Getting. She attained the age of 56 years, one month and 26 days. She grew up in Grundy Center and graduated from Grundy Center high school in 1944. She attended Gates College in Waterloo, and worked for the Chamberlain corporation and John Deere's as a secretary.
On June 14, 1952 at St. Edwards Catholic Church, Waterloo, she was united in marriage to James Edward Hartman. After their marriage they lived in Waterloo for three years, and moved to Ames where they lived for five years. They lived in Dubuque for 15 years and moved to Zanesville, OH and lived there for two and a half years before moving to Flagstaff, AZ.
She was a member of the St. Pius the 10th Catholic Church, Flagstaff, and the Homemakers Club in Flagstaff.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her husband, James of 1455 University Heights Drive North, Flagstaff, AZ 86001; two sons, Dan of Zanesville, OH and Charles of Redondo Beach, CA; four daughters, Mrs. Brian (Rebecca) Christensen of Houston, TX; Ann Marie Hartman of Las Vegas, NV; Mary Ellen Hartman and Sara Mae Hartman, both at home; one brother, Wallace Getting of Lake City, MN; one sister, Mrs. Ivan (Eunice) Flater of Grundy Center; and one grandson, Bradley James Hartman.
A memorial fund has been established. The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, Grundy Center, was in charge of arrangements.
