Services Held For Mrs. Isabel Cullinan Hulne

Mrs. Isabel Cullinan Hulne, age 84, of Sandwich, IL, and formerly of Grundy Center, passed away at 11:30 p.m. Thursday evening, June 24, 1982 at the Long Term Care Unit of the Grundy County Memorial Hospital.

Scripture services were held at 8 p.m. Sunday, at the Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, Grundy Center. Funeral services were held on Monday at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Grundy Center, with Father Paul J. Grace officiating.

Paul O. Kraushaar sang "Amazing Grace" and "How Great Thou Art". He was accompanied by Barbara High, who also played selected numbers for the prelude and postlude.

Casketbearers were Thomas Messenger, Joseph Messenger, Craig Volkens, David Volkens, Kent Volkens and Kevin Volkens. Donald Coleman and Wallace Norman served as ushers. Granddaughters of Mrs. Hulne were in charge of the floral arrangements.

Burial was in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Grundy Center, IA. Relatives and friends were invited to return to the home of Virgil and Bernice Volkens following the committal service for a period of Christian fellowship and refreshment.

Mrs. Hulne was born December 27, 1897 in Falmouth, KY, the daughter of George and Mary Johunting Fisher. She attained the age of 84 years, five months and 27 days. At the age of three her family moved to a farm near Delavan, IL. She grew up there.

On June 12, 1923 at Delavan, IL, she was united in marriage to Ed Cullinan. After their marriage they moved and made their home in Grundy Center. On June 22, 1955, her husband passed away.

On April 28, 1959 in Sandwich, IL, she was united in marriage to Eugene Hulne. They lived in Sandwich, IL until she became a resident of Long Term Care Unit of the Grundy County Memorial Hospital on June 17, 1982.

She was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church and a member of the ladies society of that church, in Sandwich, IL.

She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband and two sisters.

She is survived by her husband, Eugene of Sandwich, IL; two daughters, Mrs. Donald (Dolores) Messenger of rural Moorhead, IA and Mrs. Virgil (Bernice) Volkens of RR1, Gladbrook; one stepdaughter, Mrs. Harry (JoAnn) French of Plano, IL; two brothers, George Fisher of Grundy Center and Joe Fisher of Delavan, IL; one sister, Mrs. Irvin (Mary) Allgood of Delavan, IL; ten grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, Grundy Center, was in charge of arrangements.
