Mrs. Will Dekker Dies at Hospital

Mrs. Will Dekker died at nine o'clock Saturday morning at the Grundy Memorial Hospital. She had been at the hospital four days previous to her death. Her health had been failing during the past year and a number of times she was a hospital patient. Death was the result of advanced age and complications. She was 79 years old.

Mrs. Dekker's maiden name was Marie Slyfer. She was born August 18, 1878 in the Netherlands. On February 22, 1909 she and Will Dekker were married in the Netherlands. Shortly thereafter they came to America and to Grundy county. They resided on Grundy county farms several years before they moved to Grundy Center. He died in 1945. Since that time Mrs. Dekker continued to live in Grundy Center. Her brother John Slyfer shared the home with her. About seven weeks ago she went to the home of her daughter, Mrs. Wallace Norman, west of Grundy Center and remained there until she was taken to the hospital.

Surviving are two sons and four daughters. The sons are Joe and Albert, Grundy Center. The daughters are Mrs. Wallace Norman, Grundy Center, Mrs. Tom Bottema, Windom, Minn., Mrs. Howard Long, Whitten, and Mrs. Orval Loveless, LaPorte City. There are ten grandchildren, one brother, John Slyfer and one sister who resides in the Netherlands.

Funeral services were Tuesday forenoon at the Catholic church in Grundy Center. Rev. Fr. Donald Weidert, officiated at the service. Burial was in the Grundy Center Cemetery.
