Sam E. Frakes Died Sept. 28

Samuel E. Frakes died last Friday morning at his home in the east part of Grundy Center. He had been in failing health the past two years. He was unable to leave his home during the past two weeks. He was 84 years old the day before his death.

Funeral services were held Monday morning in Sacred Heart Catholic church, Grundy Center. Burial was by the side of the wife in the Grundy Center cemetery. The services were conducted by Rev. Father Weydert.

Mr. Frakes was born on a farm near Webster City and he grew up there. On Sept. 20, 1895, he and Ellen Jane Lynch were married at Belmond. They resided on a Wright county farm until 1905, when they moved to a farm in Washington township, Grundy county. They resided there until 17 years ago, when they moved to Grundy Center and they lived here continually.

For a number of years he helped in the management of a recreation parlor in Grundy Center with Junior Cook, who grew up and made his home with the Frakes family. It was during the time that Junior Cook served in the navy that Mr. Frakes had charge of the recreation parlor.

Mrs. Frakes died 15 months ago. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Mabel Meyers and Mrs. Mary Grady, both from Grundy Center. A son died in infancy. There are three surviving grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Relatives from a distance attending the funeral were: Mrs. Kathryn Brady, Waterloo; Mr. and Mrs. Les Lynch, Clarion; Mr. and Mrs. William Lynch, Waterloo; Mr. and Mrs. Bill Hebl, Iowa City; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Frakes, Webster City; Mr. and Mrs. Ted Frakes, Webster City; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Evans, Stanhope, Ia.; Mr. and Mrs. Penry Evans, Webster City; Don G. Cook, Sioux Falls, S.D.; Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Studer and daughter, Garner; Mr. and Mrs. Herman B. Cook and children, Cedar Falls; John Casey, Cedar Falls; Michael Lynch, Wm. Lynch and Lowell Lynch, Waterloo.
