Death Comes to Mrs. Sam Frakes
Mrs. Sam Frakes died at her home in Grundy Center Thursday evening following a short illness. She became afflicted with an abdominal infection a few days before her death and that condition continued to grow worse until the end came.
Mrs. Frakes was born on a farm near Grundy Center, September 5, 1877. Her maiden name was Ellen Jane Lynch. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Lynch. She grew up on a Grundy county farm. On September 20, 1895 she and Sam Frakes were married. Had she lived a few months longer the couple would have observed their 60th anniversary.
Following their marriage the couple resided on a Wright county farm for eight years after which they moved to a farm in Grundy county. They remained on the farm until 16 years ago when they moved to Grundy Center.
Mr. and Mrs. Frakes were the parents of three children, a son and two daughters. The son died in infancy. Surviving are the husband and the daughters, Mrs. Mabel Meyers and Mrs. Mary Grady. There are three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Other surviving members of her family are one sister, Mrs. E. E. Brady from Waterloo. Preceding her in death were her parents, four brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services were at 9:30 Monday morning at Sacred Heart Catholic church in Grundy Center. The service was conducted by Rev. Fr. Donald Weydert. Burial was in the Grundy Center cemetery. Pallbearers were Leo Lynch, Henry Stock, Herman Cook, Wm. Lynch, Jack Meyers, and Michael Lynch.
Attendants at the funeral service from out of the county were Mr. and Mrs. Fred Frakes, Mr. and Mrs. Ted Frakes and Mrs. George Evans and daughter Lottie, all from Webster City, Mr. and Mrs. William Lynch, Mr. and Mrs. Michael Lynch, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Davis and Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Brady, Waterloo and Mrs. Herman Cook, Cedar Falls.
