James Cox Services Held

James E. Cox, 79, of Grundy Center, passed away Friday, April 29, at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services were held Monday, May 2, at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic church with Rev. John M. Kissling officiating. Burial was in Sacred Heart cemetery. The flag presentation was by the American Legion Post #349.

A memorial fund has been established.

James was born October 17, 1914, the son of James and Teresa Pollard Cox in Melrose Township. He attended Melrose No. 4 school and graduated from Grundy Center High School.

On June 22, 1939, he was united in marriage to Gwendolyn Peterson at Sacred Heart Church, Grundy Center. He served in World War II and was employed as a mechanic.

He was a member of the Sacred Heart Church and the American Legion.

He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Judy Allen of Marshalltown; a son, Joe of North Hampton, New Hampshire; 1 sister, Helen Wohlert of Waterloo; 5 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Marie Cox.

French-Hand Funeral Home, Reinbeck, was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
