Mrs. Jerry Connell Dies Friday After A Long Illness

Mrs. Jeremiah Connell died at her home in Grundy Center last Friday noon in her 78th year. She had been in declining health for the past three years, and about two weeks ago suffered a stroke which caused her death.

Mrs. Connell was born Bridget Cullinan in county Waterford, Ireland, on February 1, 1857. At the age of five years she came to America with her parents, Martin and Ellen Cullinan, and settled in Tazewell county, Illinois, where she grew to womanhood. She was married there Aug. 12, 1876, to Jeremiah Connell.

Mr. and Mrs. Connell lived in Illinois until 1892 when they came to Iowa and settled on a farm near Conrad, where they lived until 1908 when they moved to Grundy Center. Mr. Connell's death occurred here Nov. 2, 1909.

Mr. and Mrs. Connell were the parents of twelve children, nine of whom were born in Illinois and three in Grundy county. One son, Willie, died in infancy in Illinois, and two daughters, Sister Rose Marie in 1927, and Mrs. P. J. Lynch in 1932, also preceded the mother in death.

Funeral services for Mrs. Connell were held at the Sacred Heart church Monday morning at 9:30, conducted by her son, Rev. J. P. Connell. The funeral oration was by Rev. P. J. Hogan, former pastor of the church. Burial was in the cemetery at Grundy Center, the services at the grave being conducted by Rev. A. J. Forster. Rev. Father Schmeetz, former pastor, was present in the sanctuary.

Mrs. Connell's surviving children are: Mrs. Nora Kinsinger, Miss Margaret Connell, James Connell and Mrs. Rose Hulne, who live in Grundy Center; M. J. Connell, Conrad; T. E. Connell, Waterloo; Mrs. May Murphy, Dike; Rev. J. P. Connell, South Garry Owen, Iowa, and Sister M. Carmelita, of Ottumwa, all of whom were present at her funeral. She is survived by thirty grandchildren. She has one sister living, Mrs. Wm. Connell of Beaman, and three brothers, Patrick Cullinan of Grundy Center, John Cullinan of Omaha, and Thomas Cullinan of Delavan, Ill.

Connell and family, Cedar Rapids; Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Connell, Dan Connell, Waterloo; Mrs. Katherine Brown, Pekin, Ill.; Mrs. Peter McGrane, Pat Powers, Waterloo; Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Chukker and son, Greene; Mr. and Mrs. Mike Morrissey, Mr. and Mrs. Morris Morrison, Eva McMahan, Manchester; Mr. and Mrs. Louis Scallon, Mrs. J. P. Murphy, Ackley; Mrs. Henry O'Connor, Mrs. Lizzie O'Connor, Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Murphy, Richard O'Connor, Waterloo; Harry Rollinger, Mrs. Ralph Goodahl, Miss Rose Anglin, South Garry Owen; Mr. and Mrs. F. J. Ruth, Marshalltown; John O'Connor, Dike; Mary Patnode, Buffalo Center.
