Rites Held For Victor Augustine
Victor R. Augustine, of Grundy Center, died Monday, September 13, at Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center of natural causes, having attained the age of 82 years, 2 months and 13 days.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 16, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Grundy Center at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. John M. Kissling and Monsignor Roger Augustine officiating.
Pallbearers were Greg Augustine, Gary Augustine, David Augustine, Jason Augustine, Charles Augustine and Al Brandl.
Burial was in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Grundy Center.
A memorial fund has been established.
Mr. Augustine was born June 30, 1911, near Haverhill, Iowa, the son of Ignatuis and Mary (Funke) Augustine. He moved with his family to Geddes, South Dakota, where he graduated from St. Anne's High School in 1929.
On January 27, 1941, he was united in marriage to Vivian Nason in Marshalltown.
During World War II, Victor served three years in North Africa, Sicily, and Italy and was honorably discharged in 1945.
He made his home in Marshalltown until 1955 when he moved his family to Grundy Center. He retired from Lennox Industries in Marshalltown in 1976.
Mr. Augustine was a member of Sacred Heart Parish, Holy Name Society, and American Legion Post #46.
He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, and four sisters.
Survivors include his wife, Vivian of Grundy Center; four sons, Vic of Marshalltown, Dennis of Muscatine, David of Flower Mound, TX, and John of Kent, WA; one sister, Mrs. Wayne (Marie) Olsen of Madison, WI; two granddaughters; and six grandsons.
The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home of Grundy Center was in charge of the arrangements.
