Death of Mrs. Howard Abbott

Last Saturday, Jan. 15, occurred the death of Mrs. Howard Abbott, at her home in this city, after a battle covering several months, against that relentless malady, tuberculosis. The funeral was held Monday morning from Sacred Heart Catholic church, conducted by Rev. Father Hogan, after which interment was made in the Catholic cemetery west of town. Four brothers, Edward L., Michael J., Patrick H., and James C. Morrisey, Herbert Abbott and Edward Cooney acted as pall bearers.

Nora Morrissey, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Morrisey, who reside near Ames, was born in Tremont, Illinois, Aug. 4, 1879. She was married to Howard Abbott Feb. 14, 1898, at Tremont, Ill. They moved to Ames a year ago, and last August came to Grundy Center where Mr. Abbott has since been working for Mr. Kahl. Six children have been born, four of whom are living. In addition to the husband and motherless children the deceased leaves a father and mother, eight brothers and one sister.

Mrs. Abbott was taken with tuberculosis some years ago and has been failing for many months, but a short time ago she fell a victim to pneumonia and was not strong enough to contend against the disease. It is expected the children will all be sent to the Catholic home in Dubuque where they will be given all the comforts and training of a home.

Those from a distance who were here to attend the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Michael Morrisey and sons, Edward L., Michael J., Patrick B., Jas. C., of Ames, Herbert Abbott, of Oakville, Iowa, Ed Conney and son, of Tremont, Ill., and Mike Ryan, of Waterloo, Iowa.
