John H. Kitzmiller was born at Hagerstown, Maryland, on August 1, 1836, departed this life at Haldane, Ill., December 2, 1921, aged 85 years and 3 months and 1 day. He came from Maryland with his parents in 1843, making the entire trip by wagon, locating near West Grove in Ogle county, later removing northwest of Haldane, where he lived until 1889, when he moved to Marshall county, Iowa, where he lived until 1892, when he moved to the farm just northwest of Conrad, Iowa, where he lived until December 16, 1901, at which time he moved to Conrad, Iowa. On January 1, 1863, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Mullen of Forreston, Ill., who preceded him in death 18 years ago on August 29, 1903. To this union were born three children: Harry, of Deer Trail, Colorado; Mrs. Caroline Hazelwood of Worthington, Minnesota, and Margaret Kitzmiller, the latter of whom preceded the mother in death. His last illness was of a year's duration, a portion of which time he suffered greatly but so patiently. At all times everything was "Alright."
