Andrew Griggs, Beaman, Dead
Andrew Griggs, 80, a veteran of the civil war and for thirty-nine years a resident of Beaman, died at 11:30 Saturday forenoon at the Deaconess hospital. He suffered a stroke of apoplexy at his home Wednesday night and was brought to the hospital Thursday. Pneumonia developed and caused his death.
Mr. Griggs was born in Canada. He was united in marriage in 1869 with Miss Nancy Brown, who died a year ago. Since the death of Mrs. Griggs, he had made his home alone at Beaman. Years ago he farmed in the Gladbrook neighborhood.
Two sons and a daughter survive. They are Mrs. Thomas Wood, living two miles northwest of Marshalltown; Perry Griggs, Waldo, Wis., and W. B. Griggs, Gladbrook. Four brothers and two sisters also are living. They are Charles Sidney, George and Robert Griggs, Washington, and Mrs. Stephen Payne and Mrs. Clark Payne, Cascade, Wis.
