Former Area Man Dies From Accident

Herbert Thomas, 85, former Liscomb and Conrad area resident, died Thursday morning at Sartori Hospital, Cedar Falls, as a result of injuries incurred in a car accident July 16 near Waterloo.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Whitten Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Robert Winter. Masonic rites were conducted in the Benson cemetery.

Born Feb. 12, 1883, near Marshalltown he was the son of John R. and Cora Thomas. He married Lena Koehler in 1906 and they farmed west of Conrad until retirement, when they moved to California.

Mr. and Mrs. Thomas returned to Whitten in 1947 and Mrs. Thomas died in November, 1959. In August, 1960, he married Martha Long of Whitten and they moved to Liscomb where they remained until entering Friendship Haven, Fort Dodge.

Mr. Thomas is survived by his widow, who remains in Sartori Hospital as a result of the July 16 auto accident; one son, Clarence, and a daughter, Mrs. John (Ruth) Koch, Conrad, 10 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; also a stepson Howard Long of Whitten and a step-daughter, Mrs. Florence St. Clair of Council Bluffs.
