Mrs. Joe A. Meester Dies Fri. Morning

Mrs. Joe A. Meester died at 8:40 Friday morning at the Grundy hospital where she had been a patient seven days. She had been afflicted with cancer during the past two years and had been at the hospital a number of times for treatment.

The body was taken by the Engelkes Funeral Service to the home of the son, Henry, in Colfax township where a short service was held at 12:30 Tuesday and at one o'clock at the Colfax Presbyterian church. Burial was by the side of the husband in the cemetery adjoining the church. Rev. A. Roskamp officiated at the service. The husband died July 5, 1956.

Since the death of her husband, Mrs. Meester made her home with her sons in Colfax township.

Mrs. Meester was 83 years old on Dec. 1 of last year. She was born on a farm in Pleasant Valley township and she grew up there. Her maiden name was Hattie Meester. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Meester.

On March 19, 1900, Joe A. Meester and Hattie Meester were married. They resided on a farm in Colfax township until 1940 when they purchased a home and moved to Grundy Center.

Surviving are six sons. They are Henry, William, Tom, Andrew, Gerald and Calvin. All reside on farms in Colfax and Beaver township except Andrew who lives in Grundy Center. There are seven grandchildren. Other surviving relatives are five brothers and two sisters. The brothers are Joe J. Meester, Hillerd, John E., Harry and Andrew. They all reside on farms in Pleasant Valley township except Hillerd who lives in Parkersburg. The sisters are Mrs. Jake Bergman, Stout, and Hattie, who makes her home with her brother Andrew.
