P. J. Lynch Died in Maryland Hospital

Peter J. Lynch, who spent the greater part of his life in Grundy county, died Thursday afternoon in the Prince George Hospital at Chevy Chase, Maryland. He had been visiting at the home of his son Edward in Lanham, Maryland, where, after receiving an acute gall bladder attack, he was taken to the hospital on February 21st where he submitted to surgery. He was 87 years old October 23rd of last year.

Mr. Lynch was born in Carroll County, Iowa, October 23rd, 1871. At the age of 11 he came to Marshall county with his parents and later the family moved to a farm in southwest Grundy county. Mr. Lynch lived near Aberdeen, S. Dak., for three years. It was while he resided there that he returned to Grundy county and in 1909 he and Marie Connell were married here. After two years they returned to Grundy Center and remained here. Mrs. Lynch died in 1932. Mr. Lynch continued to reside here after the death of his wife. He engaged in carpenter work in Grundy Center for several years. He was an honest and a competent craftsman and built many substantial homes in Grundy Center. In 1954 he left his home in Grundy Center for the home of his daughter, Mrs. Howard Wilson and family, Waterloo, and remained there until he went to visit his son and family in Maryland last July.

The body was sent to Grundy Center and it arrived here Sunday and was taken to the Ferree Funeral Home. The son, Edward, and his wife from Maryland accompanied the body to Grundy Center.

Services were held at 10:30 on Tuesday forenoon in Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Grundy Center. The service was conducted by Rev. Fr. Weydert. Burial was by the side of the wife in the Grundy Center cemetery. Surviving are two sons and one daughter. One daughter, Patricia, died in 1944. The sons are James, Berkeley, Calif.; Edward, Lanham, Maryland, and the daughter, Grace (Mrs. Howard Wilson), Waterloo. There are 14 grandchildren.
