Rosa Mae Heikens, 79, of Holland, IA, died Saturday, May 8, 2004, at Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center of natural causes. Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, May 11, at Holland Christian Reformed Church in Holland, with Pastor Gary Nibbelink officiating. Burial followed at Holland Cemetery in Holland. A memorial fund has been established. Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center was serving the family.

Rosa Mae was born May 3, 1925, at home on her parent's farm in rural Holland, the daughter of Sam P. and Margaret (Siefken) Heronimus. Rosa Mae received her education at Colfax #2 rural country school in Grundy County. On August 15, 1942, Rosa Mae was united in marriage to Julius H. Heikens in Unionville, MO. After their marriage, Rosa Mae and Julius lived in Waterloo for a couple years and then moved to Holland in 1946. Rosa Mae worked as a self-employed truck driver for over thirty-five years. In those years, Rosa Mae hauled cobs, gravel, grain, livestock, and seed corn for many area farmers and businesses. Rosa Mae retired from driving in 1984. On July 27, 1986, her husband Julius died. Rosa Mae continued to make Holland her home after his death. She was a member of Holland Christian Reformed Church. She loved her animals.

She is survived by one son Steward J. Heikens and his wife Renee of Holland; two granddaughters Susan Beck and her husband Jim, Tammy Lehr and her husband Brandon all of Holland; four great-grandchildren; one brother Wilbur Heronimus and his wife Lorna of Waterloo; and one sister Esther Meester of Holland.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Julius in 1986; and two brothers, Samuel and Maynard Heronimus.
