Lester G. Barfels, 89, of Reinbeck, formerly of Grundy Center, died April 29 at the Parkview Manor in Reinbeck. Funeral services were May 1 at the First Presbyterian Church in Grundy Center. Burial followed in the Reinbeck Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the First Presbyterian Church in Grundy Center or the Reinbeck Fire Department.

Lester George Barfels was born on August 30, 1914, the son of Henry and Bertha (Claussen) Barfels. He was raised on the Barfels Century farm. Lester married Winona Plaehn on May 28, 1935.

He is survived by his wife; a son; two daughters; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law.

Lester was preceded in death by his parents; a sister; a grandson; and a great-grandson.
