Ronald "RJ" Johnston, 78, of Conrad, died March 14 while under the care of Iowa River Hospice. Funeral services were March 17 at the Conrad United Methodist Church. Burial followed in the Conrad Cemetery. A memorial fund is being established.

Ronald was born August 15, 1925, the son of Andrew and Hazel (Dodd) Johnston. He received his education in the Collins Schools. In 1943, Ronald enlisted into the Navy. He was a Machinist Mate-3rd Class and is a veteran of World War II. Ronald returned to Iowa following his discharge from the Navy in 1946. On August 17, 1947, Ronald was united in marriage with Faye Myrlee Hurdle. He was employed for 30 years with Green Products and in 1979 he became the owner and operator of RJ's Lounge in Conrad.

Ronald is survived by his four daughters; a sister; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
