Gladys Margaret Hagen, 80, of Grundy Center, died on Friday, March 12, at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center. Graveside services were held at Rose Hill Cemetery in Grundy Center Monday. A memorial service was held March 15 at the First Baptist Church in Grundy Center. A memorial fund has been established.
Gladys was born on May 14, 1923, in Grundy County, the daughter of George and Florence (Reiter) Johnson. She graduated from Grundy Center High School in 1940 and attended Moody Bible Institute. She was united in marriage to Andrew Hagen on Aug. 2, 1946, in Parkersburg. She worked as a secretary for the Clerk of Circuit Court in Florida for 4 years and was the office manager for her husband's chiropractic office in DeLand, Florida Center for 11 years. Gladys volunteered as a reading mentor at Walter Cunningham Elementary in Waterloo and also at Starke Elementary in DeLand, FL. Gladys was a former member of the First Baptist Church in Grundy Center. Gladys was a trustee at the Grundy Center Library for many years.
Survivors include her children: Andrew Hagen Jr. and wife Nancy of Delefield, WI; Sandy and husband Glen Meade of Oak Park, IL; Janet and husband Paul Eberline of Grundy Center; Carol and husband Lee Hutchins of Oak Park, IL; Jonathan Hagen and wife Tamarah of Greenville, SC; and Jennifer and husband Ron Hapke of Portland, OR; 12 grandchildren, one great-granddaughter; two sisters: Helen Swisher Mast and husband Ken of Waterloo, and Marci Johnson of Waterloo; three brothers: Harlan and wife Janice Johnson, Art and his wife Karen, and Robert and his wife Jan all of Parkersburg; and a sister-in-law Hilda and husband Russell Heerts of Parkersburg. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Andrew, and her parents.
