Mabel Berniece Spieker, 80, of Grundy Center, died January 15 at the Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo. Funeral services were January 19 at Bethany Presbyterian Church, Grundy Center. Burial followed in the Rose Hill Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established.

Mabel was born November 26, 1923, in Franklin county, the daughter of Harm and Cleo (Anway) VanHorn. She attended rural country school in Butler County. On December 10, 1940, she was united in marriage to Raymond Spieker at the Congregational Church in Parkersburg. She had worked at Norwesco in Grundy Center for 15 years. She was a member of the Bethany Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include her three sons, Gary Spieker of Waterloo, Randy Spieker of Mason City and Melvin Spieker of Mason City; two daughters, Sharon and her husband Clinton Aulston of Bexar, AK and Bonnie and her husband Dale Hahn of West Point, IN; a daughter-in-law, Connie Spieker of Grundy Center; 20 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; two brothers, James VanHorn of Charles City and Richard and his wife Kay of Dentonville, AK; and two sisters, Donna and her husband Raymond Muller of Grundy Center and Lois Sealman of Houston, TX.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond; her parents; two sons, Raymond Spieker, Jr., and Allan Spieker; a daughter, Shirley Michaels; two infant brothers, Larry Dean and Bobby; a brother, Merlin Spieker; and a sister, Darlene Pearl VanHorn.
