Peter Theodore Meinert, 88, of Grundy Center, died January 13 at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center. Funeral services were January 17 at Bethany Presbyterian Church in Grundy Center. Burial followed in the Rose Hill Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established.

Ted was born September 6, 1915, in Lincoln, the son of Peter J. A. and Marie C. (Hansen) Mienert. He grew up in the area of his birth and received his education in rural schools near Grundy Center. Ted was a WWII veteran, serving in the Army from June 6, 1942, through October 10, 1945. He was united in marriage to Gladys E. Herzog on November 17, 1945. The couple farmed southeast of Grundy Center until he retired in 2002. He worked for the Grundy County ASCS office for several years. He was a leader for the Washington Wranglers 4-H Club, a member of the IOOF Telulah Lodge #285 and the American Legion Post #349 of Grundy Center. Ted was very active in Farm Bureau, and held several offices. He was a member of the Bethany Presbyterian Church where he served as Trustee and Deacon.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister at birth; a brother, Johann Meinert; and two sisters, Helen Manus and Margaret Koch.

Survivors include his wife, Gladys; a son, Keith Meinert of Grundy Center; two daughters, Diane Husak of Gladbrook and Patricia Meinert of Forest City; two grandsons; a brother, Harry Meinert and his wife Barbara of Largo, FL; and two sisters, Hildegarde Dirks of Grundy Center and Marie Whitney of Grundy Center.
