Bill Winger Services Held

John "Bill" Winger, 55, of Wellsburg, passed away Sunday, March 29, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo of heart failure.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, April 1, at 1 p.m. at the St. Peter's United Church of Christ, rural Wellsburg, with burial in the church cemetery. Pastor Ronald Fisher officiated the service.

Pallbearers were Les Slaymaker, Brad Aukes, Brian Boomgarden, Jason Krull, Ray Tessau and Stanley Hippen.

A memorial fund has been established.

Bill was born on June 11, 1942, the son of John and Eileen (Dunkle) Winger in Ionia, Michigan. He graduated from Pinckney High School in Michigan and later attended Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls. He was united in marriage to Joan Nederhoff on August 14, 1964, in the First Congregational Church in Eldora. Bill was employed at Quality Products in Eldora for 15 years. Bill was a member of the St. Peter's United Church of Christ, serving as a board member, Meadowbrook Golf Course, and he was an avid golfer.

He was preceded in death by one infant sister.

Survivors include his wife, Joan of Wellsburg; parents, Rev. John and Eileen Winger of Midland, Michigan; children, David and wife Michelle of Des Moines, Darrell and wife Kara of Bakersfield, California, Sheila Cole and husband John of Grundy Center and Greg and wife Sarah of Wellsburg; 2 brothers, Donald of Midland, Michigan and Douglas and wife Beverly of Midland, Michigan; and 3 grandchildren, Cody Cole of Grundy Center, Alexander Winger of Bakersfield, California and Megan Winger of Des Moines.

The Doyen-Abels Funeral Home in Wellsburg was in charge of the arrangements.
