Rites Held For Marie Meinders

Marie Meinders of Aplington, died Tuesday, March 28, at the Allison Care Center in Allison where she had been a resident since November 5, 1991. She reached the age of 89 years, 4 months and 19 days.

Funeral services were held Friday, March 31, at 1:30 p.m. in the First Reformed Church in Aplington with Gary Hegstad officiating. Interment was in St. Peters United Church of Christ Cemetery, rural Wellsburg.

Pallbearers were Kenneth Johnson, Roger Johnson, Tako Ubben, Marlin Kramer, Elwin Finger and Bob Poppens.

Marie was born the daughter of Brunke and Hilkea Borchers Meinders on December 9, 1905, in Pleasant Valley Township, Grundy County, rural Aplington. She attended rural school near her home. In 1936, Marie moved with her parents to Aplington.

As a youth, Marie exhibited her talents of art painting, crocheting and embroidering at the Grundy County Fair. She continued to enjoy these hobbies throughout her life. She also was an active and faithful member of the First Reformed Church in Aplington.

She was preceded in death by her parents; 2 brothers, Martin and Edward Meinders; and 1 sister, Ella Meinders.

Marie is survived by 3 nieces, Irene (Mrs. Siebe) Frey of Holland, Cynthia (Mrs. Will) Telljohann and Dianna (Mrs. Paul) Brown, both of Perrysburg, Ohio; and 1 nephew, Ben Meinders of Aplington.

Schwartz Funeral Chapel in Aplington was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
